GBA Curriculum

Common Core State Standards

Global Bilingual Academy uses the Common Core State Standards. These standards establish clear, consistent guidelines for what every student should know and be able to do in Math and English Language Arts from kindergarten through 12th grade. They also provide a way for teachers to measure student progress throughout the school year and ensure that students are on the pathway to success in their academic careers.

Next Generation Science Standards

In Science, Global Bilingual Academy uses The Next Generation Science Standards. These standards reflect what a student should be able to know and do in the areas of physical sciences, the life sciences, earth and space sciences, engineering, technology, and applications of science.

ELA Curriculum

For English Language Arts, we use the Journeys program (KG – Grade 6) a Common Core State Standards aligned curriculum by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. It is a research based program that provides solid instruction in reading, spelling, phonics and vocabulary. It also provides students with a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts, teaches reading strategies and reinforces comprehension and vocabulary.

Math Curriculum

Go Math (KG – Grade 6), which is also a Common Core State Standards aligned curriculum by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, provides an engaging and interactive approach to learning math. It emphasizes understanding, fluency, problem solving and real life application. Students are asked to do more complex tasks and to be able to explain their solutions.

Kg Curriculum

KG students will learn reading, writing, and early numeracy skills through rich and varied early learning experiences that will prepare them for success in school and will lay the foundation for reading, writing and math. They will learn through interactive activities, songs, stories and centers.

Homework

Homework helps students develop responsibility and life skills. Assigned homework will include activities that have been taught in class such as coloring, cutting, pasting or reviewing vocabulary and sight words in KG. Grades 1 – 2 should have 20 minutes or less per subject while Grades 3 – 6 will have 30 minutes or less per subject. Students should work independently on homework.
